Free Selenium Training

This post was updated on .
As you may have read in this post. I am wanting to provide free selenium training. But this could only materialize when there are enough participants. Logistics can be worked out only after there is enough participation. So what could a Selenium training cover? It boils down to many factors, like -

1. Language of your choice. Remember Selenium tests can written in a variety of languages like - Java, C#, Python, PHP... list goes on. And then beginning should be to first learn the language.

2. What is you objective in test automation. Record and Replay (Selenium IDE is for you) or sustainable test automation using Selenium 2 API

3. Already on Selenium 1 and  want to migrate to Selenium 2?

4. Willing to reduce time in test automation by parallelizing you test. Grid 2 is here.

The list goes on, and list can not be static. Different groups would have different needs. And as I said earlier things can be finalized only after there is enough participation. So post on your suggestions in this thread.

When there is more participation :)
spread the word, let you circle know of it, and then we would have more people chiming in.
So I see first task is to involve more audience (May be a criteria of having at least 50/75 participants), and we have not reached that stage yet.

Hi Tarun,

First of all I appreciate the efforts and direction you are trying to get here. A big thumbs up for that.

Reaching a physical attendance of  50/75 might be difficult, and logistics would be another challenge.
For this training may I suggest starting with organizing a webinar instead? Set an agenda, put in some expectations from the audience, start up the webinar process a few days/weeks before the actual webinar and record the proceedings which can be viewed by others later on. I'm sure if its advertised on Facebook, LinkedIN, SQA forums etc this can generate a lot of interest.

What say?

Thanks,
Kam

Hi Kam,

Thanks for nice words.
I don't have any hard and fast rules whether it is participation number of content of training. But I suppose we need to decide on a good number (and so as on other factors) before commencing on actual training. I liked the idea of - "start up the webinar process a few days/weeks before the actual webinar" and I suppose during this audience can be asked

1. What they want to learn about selenium
2. What have been the stumbling blocks for them etc etc

Different groups are going to have different needs.

I also agree with advertising on social media (and by advertise I mean sharing on individual's friend/professional circle as real advertising would be way costly)
May be first we need to garner more attention towards the questions I posted above.
May be I should create a different thread ("What should be the Selenium course content") for it and that thread could be publicized on social media and hopefully it turns in to enough responses.

What do you think? And thanks again for your valuable suggestions.

Hi Manoj,

Thanks for advance support. As it looks from initial conversation that we need to first let community know about it > decide on content and commence with training/group meet/webinar etc.
So help us in building audience.

hi Swetha,

We want to build audience first and there has not been enough participation so far. Please help us spread the word. I am thinking if 10 is good count to begin with training, but we have not reached even that now. So let you circle of friends know of it and then we can decide on agenda and other training needs. Thanks for participation.
